December Daily Junk Journal

Im really into junk journals at the moment. Its not a new thing for me I will admit, but it has become the latest craze in this house :) Im sure it has something to do with the freedom of not having to be so correct and neat when sticking things down… or something.

Anyway, a little while ago I was doing a google search for images of junk journal / smash book pages for some inspiration. While I was looking through the search results I came across one of my own images. I will admit to the cheap thrill of finding one of my own blog pictures :) It was of the cover of my December daily 2011 journal that I took just after I put the bones of the album together.

I completed the album weeks ago and seeing this image made me realise that I never posted an update of how it all came out. There are some things that I really like and some things that I will change when I do it all again this year. I love the way it looks, its big and chunky and its got bits sticking out of it all over the place… like a proper junk journal IMO :)

I used the junk journal that Lauren sent me in a swap we were both in. I took out most of the larger white pages that she’d added (I was using pages that were a different size) but kept all of the smaller patterned papers. I added a heap of patterned pages of my own along with all of the larger ones.

At some point I chose to use photos that were 5x7in in size. This is probably the biggest thing that I didn’t like. That and the plain white paper that I used. There were days when I really didn’t have photos for that size of printing or that many photos per day (2 to 3). I had to find images to use. That really wasn’t “me”.

Pictures I had to go searching for. Although, having said that it was a lunar eclipse... its not like I was going to get photos of that myself!

Pictures I did have for the entry :)

Another thing that I had issues with was the fact that I couldn’t print these photos at home. Not in that size, so I had to wait for days when I could get to the printer to have a handful all done at once. Thats probably another reason I couldn’t keep up and do a little each day…. without the photo on the page I couldn’t get the journaling down…

Even after all of this, I do like my journal. I like the way it looks, I like the idea behind documenting a whole month a day at a time and I like the basic process. This year I’ll make adjustments to that process and hopefully the next journal will come out even better :D

Grandma’s clock and the world its hiding

Damn it has been a long time hasnt it?? I almost forgot how to log in!!! OMG :O

I made a pledge to myself that I was going to keep up with the blog more this year……. hmmm, well its not to late…. right?

Well, as usual Ive been doing alot of crafty stuff, most of which I’ve either just put away or Ive done a youtube video for but not shared on the blog. Geez, lazy much? I shared all of my christmas gift makings… since then I’ve made cards, a tropical album, a black and white album and I’ve finished my  December daily album.

Anyway, for the past week and a bit I’ve been working on a “hidden world” project. The whole idea that I came up with is that the album is meant to be an old clock that has a fairy world hidden inside it. I think I made it work. I like it anyway :D

The album itself comes “raw” and I got it from Anne in Norway who has a number of different albums for sale. I took a deep breath and cut into my Graphic45 “Once upon a Springtime” paper hoard to decorate each of the pages.

I decided to make use of other things in my hoard and broke out the glimmermist, feathers, loose card stock and sizzix dies! Woo go me! :) I think thats why this album took me so long to make. By my standards, it took a long time to make, trust me :)

I didnt end up using anywhere near as much of the paper as I usually would. I dont know why, but I seem to have chosen to use plain card/paper and spray on colours and shimmer rather than just stick more of the decorated paper into place. I like the way its come out AND I have LOTS of paper left to make another album!!!

This is an idea that I stole wholesale from Tracy. She uses system cards (index cards, recipe cards, whatever you want to call them) in her projects to give her straight lines to journal on. The ones I used here are place card size that fit perfectly into the little pockets. Great idea!

I havent made the video for this album yet. I have to wait until morning – better light, you understand – but I will do one and load it to my youtube channel. I’ve decided not to go back and do a catchup of the other projects I’ve been working on. I will try to keep a little more up-to-date with the blog from now on though ;)
